Ian Webster, the owner and proprietor of Hazard County Illustration, has been a freelance digital illustrator since 1998. In 1996 he graduated from Cornish College of the Arts, in Seattle, with a B.A. in Graphic Design. As a Junior Designer for the creative agency Horton, Lantz and Marocco he worked extensively with Starbucks Coffee. At the time Starbucks needed a large amount of illustrative solutions for their branding as they began going national, and then international. After dozens of projects, he gradually evolved from being a Designer who illustrated, to an Illustrator who designed. He eventually realized that he was happiest when painting or retouching digital images and began to focus exclusively on digital illustration. His early career informed his skill set. Becoming proficient with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator enabled him achieve a wide range of illustrative styles – while retaining an overarching style of his own. After going freelance he continued working for HLM and other creative agencies in Seattle. In 2004, Ian and his wife Magda Biernat-Webster moved to New York City and continued his freelancing career. Today they live and work in Brooklyn, NY.
